How to reserve equipment for students using HKUST Guangzhou Instrument Sharing System for the first time?
- Firstly, the PI needs to register for the system and create a new subject group and project. Then, students should fill in their supervisor and join the project when registering. Can experimental consumables be purchased and requested through the Laboratory Animal Facility (GZ)?
- Yes. Regular experimental consumables have been listed on the instrument share lab system of HKUST(GZ) (link: https://instrumentsharelab.hkust-gz.edu.cn) and can be requested through the "Workbench - Consumable Management" module. If you have other needs that are not available in the system, you can also contact the administrator to purchase. For users from the Guangzhou Campus and Hong Kong Clear Water Bay Campus, the purchase price is the original purchase cost. More details。
Can external users request consumables through the Laboratory Animal Facility (GZ)?
- Yes. Any registered user of the instrument share lab system of HKUST(GZ) (link: https://instrumentsharelab.hkust-gz.edu.cn) can request consumables. For external users, the purchase price is calculated as: original purchase cost + (original purchase cost x 5%).
Can public platform instruments, accessories, dongle and other devices be moved to other rooms within the Laboratory Animal Facility (GZ)?
- Yes, but administrator approval is required. Unauthorized transfers are not allowed. Transfers from Zone F and the first-floor barrier to Zone DE must be requested at least two weekdays in advance.
Can public platform instruments, accessories, dongles and other devices be taken outside the Laboratory Animal Facility (GZ)?
- No. If there are special circumstances, please contact the administrator.
What are the rules for using Behavioural Platform devices?
- Before entering LAF(GZ), users must participate in the local safety training organized by the facility and obtain facility access qualifications.
- Users must receive training and pass the assessment by facility staff before they can use the instruments independently. Other personnel are not allowed to operate the instruments alone. Otherwise, if the instruments are damaged, malfunctioned, or their performance is decreased, his research group/unit shall bear the maintenance costs.
- Users with the qualification to use the instruments independently are strictly prohibited from lending their usage rights. The reserved timeslots are only for the reservation holder’s personal use, and it is strictly prohibited to use the instruments during non-reserved time slots. During the use of the instrument, it is strictly prohibited to leave, and the user assumes the responsibility for safety.
- Reserve machine usage time according to actual needs. Late arrival, absenteeism, and delay (except for delays according to the regulations) are all prohibited behaviors. Before using the instrument, users should check the status of the instrument. If there is a malfunction, please report it to the facility staff immediately. More information。
What is the time frame for reserving equipment for the Behavioural Sciences Platform?
- In principle, the laboratory equipment is open from 7:00 to 23:30, beyond which you need to submit a request. The door to the laboratory is opened 10 minutes before the appointment time. Early access is possible 5 minutes before the appointment time. The deadline for cancellation is 30 minutes before the appointment time.
What are the billing rules for the instrument?
- Usage time: The actual start of usage time is the same as the appointment start of usage time, compare the appointment time period and the actual usage time period, and take the larger value. The formula for billing the instrument is: usage time x unit price per hour of the instrument. If you miss an appointment, you will be charged for the time spent during the appointment.
